We like to think we are more than just your average restaurant. L'Atelier restaurant art gallery is where we display work from various artists for our diners to enjoy. We are currently displaying work by the Irish artist Donal Ryan.
Donal Ryan was born in Dublin in 1940. He moved to London in 1959 and studied at St. Martin's and Chelsea School of Art. His teachers included Elizabeth Frink. Inspired by the New York School of Abstract Impressionism and by British contemporaries such as Keith Vaughan, he won several prizes for painting. He graduated as public taste shifted to graphics based styles: Op and Pop Art.
He began a career in teaching and lecturing, only returning to full time painting in 2005 with a showing at Nik Ladha. He has since had several successful exhibitions at the Hepsibah Gallery, from which two of his works were chosen for the Al Salamah luxury yacht – and so, have travelled the world. His paintings revive the energy and optimism of the early sixties.
